JPG to WebP

Make a WebP from a JPEG, and compare the size afterwards.

Runs in your browser. Your files are not uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Add one or more JPEG files.
  2. Set the WebP quality.
  3. Download the WebP and read the size change.

You cannot get the lost JPEG detail back

The JPEG has already been compressed once. Turning it into a WebP compresses that result again. A moderate quality often makes a smaller file. A very high quality can make a larger one, because the WebP is storing the JPEG’s leftovers rather than the original camera file.

The sizes shown are measured. If you need a file that more desktop apps open, stay with JPEG and use Compress image instead.

Questions

Will this improve a blurry JPEG?

No. It only re-encodes the pixels that are already there.

Is the quality the same scale as a JPEG editor?

It is this encoder’s own scale from 40 to 95. Compare the picture, not the number, with another app.

Is the file uploaded?

No.
